Fadi Almelhem | Lasts I, 2025
"On the reverse of a family photograph, I found the phrase: “A memory that lasts and lasts and lasts.” Yet fate stripped the image of its function. Permanence was not in the image, but in the legacy it carried: persistence of patriarchy across generations. Memory here is not a record of a past moment, but a pattern that thrives, regardless of place or fate. In this family, the eldest son bears the burden, the second son remains overlooked, and the daughters are denied recognition. Through the photographic archive I found in southern Syria, this permanence spoke for itself."
