Bamiyan reflects the resilience and fierce independence of the Afghan people, shaped by a history of invasions. At its center is the hollowed niche of the destroyed Buddhas of Bamiyan - a symbol of cultural erasure that ignited global discourse and an ongoing campaign of atrocities targeting the ethnic Hazara community living in the Bamiyan Valley. Embroidered potato plants and buds honor the Bamiyan Valley’s local festival, while invasive Colorado beetles reference external threats. Through this work, I invite reflection on the enduring spirit of a people navigating power and resistance.
