About
A Franco-Algerian artist based in Beirut since 2019, she has made a name for herself with silkscreen prints whose fragmented, fictitious graphic composition of the urban environment reflects her personal emotions.
In 2021, imbued with the city and inhabited by her memories, Lilia Benbelaïd began writing a comic strip in which architecture becomes the medium for real-life moments or memorial allegories.
Oscillating between fiction and reality, this cathartic tale weaves together the experience of the city and the disillusionment of love, offering the reader an introspective look at Beirut.
*wai\waj\masculine: a slang word from Marseille used to describe a messy, disorderly, brothel-like environment.
This exhibition is part of the international & francophone book festival Beyrouth Livres /Beirut Books, organized by the French Institute in Lebanon.
