collab. Fadi Al-Melhem
Fadi Al-Melhem (b. 1996, Syria) is a visual artist whose practice centers on printmaking, through which he explores themes of memory, displacement, family archives, and the relationship between personal experiences and broader social and political narratives.
He graduated from the Department of Printmaking at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus University, in 2017, where he studied and trained in various printmaking techniques. He continues to expand his practice through engraving, printmaking, and sculpture, while also working with photographs, family archives, and documents as visual materials and sources for research.
Al-Melhem’s work explores the relationship between individual and collective memory, particularly in the contexts of war, migration, and displacement. In many of his works, he draws on personal images and archives to reconsider how memory is formed and transmitted across generations, and how personal history can intersect with broader histories of violence and social and political transformation.
