Shams Safieddine | Curfew, 2025
Curfew reflects a personal memory from the 2006 Lebanese-Israeli war, when towns in the South lived under curfew and danger was hidden in the ordinary. As a child, I experienced this time with innocence, joy, and a playful mindset, unaware of the violence surrounding me. Looking back as an adult, I see the tension between preserving that purity and confronting the reality of danger. Through this work, I revisit childhood games that subliminally normalized violence, exposing how play became a shield for innocence while masking the larger game of war imposed on us.
