About
The Unreliable Ledger explores the fragility of memory- voluntary or imposed - and how it is recorded, manipulated, and erased.
Through analog techniques in printmaking and darkroom photography, this exhibition examines forgetting not as a failure, but as an intentional act— sometimes protective, sometimes destructive. Memory is rarely objective; it is edited, redacted, and reshaped by time, trauma, power, and perception. What remains is often an unreliable archive: fragmented, selective, and unstable.
In a time of digital permanence and historical revision, The Unreliable Ledger invites viewers to consider the ethics of remembering and forgetting. Can absence speak? Can an image lie by omission? This exhibition does not seek to resolve these tensions, but to hold them— making visible the quiet struggle between truth and denial, presence and disappearance. These visual documents do not attempt to restore what’s gone, but instead linger in the gaps, raising questions about who controls memory and what gets left behind.
The Unreliable Ledger is the first edition of a collective exhibition showcasing the works of many of the artists from Beirut Printmaking Studio.
Beirut Printmaking Studio
Beirut Printmaking Studio is an inclusive space open to artists with an interest in the printed image. The studio welcomes professionals and amateurs alike to discover, learn, and practice traditional and alternative forms of analog printmaking and
photography. We offer workshops, masterclasses and courses in analog printmaking, film photography, and darkroom techniques— including black & white, color, and alternative processes. Our programs are hands-on and rooted in a deep respect for craft and
process. Our studio is funded through our own initiatives, program grants and individual donors.
